Teton County was established on January 26, 1915, with its county seat at Driggs. It was the 36th country created in Idaho. It was named for the adjacent Teton mountains and valley. The valley was formerly known as Pierre's Hole where Indians held their councils and trappers met for their rendezvous.

Teton County is one of the few counties in the country to border a county with the same name in another state. In this case, it borders Teton County, Wyoming, which is also named for the mountains.
Teton County is one of the fastest growing counties in Idaho, registering an astonishing 17% growth rate in 2005.
What To See And Do:
Spud Drive-In Theatre
The Spud Drive-In is located in Driggs, Idaho a small town in Teton County. The town can boast of having one stop light and one of the greatest drive-in movie theatres around. On July 3, 2003, the drive-in turned 50 years old and was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The old-fashioned drive-in lets you watch a movie in the shadow of the Grand Teton Mountains. The drive-in is also the site of the world's largest potato.
Famous Teton County Natives and Residents:
Dawn Wells (1938- ), an actress, is best-known for her role as Mary Ann on the TV sitcom, "Gilligan's Island." She vacationed as a child in Teton Valley and later launched the Idaho Film and Television Institute in Driggs. She also holds a film and music festival called SpudFest each summer.
