As a member of the Senate Budget Committee, I strongly support controlling federal spending to ensure that federal tax dollars are used in a responsible and appropriate manner. I am a long-time advocate for accountability in the congressional budget and funding processes.

Federal investment in research and development can take many forms. It can assist a research institution, an organization, or an agency pursuing basic or applied science. These investments also have direct and indirect benefits. Research funding supports many high-skill, high-value jobs in Idaho and indirectly contributes to advancing the education of local students seeing attractive employment nearby. It also promotes local and regional economic development as companies and employers seek to develop links with innovative technology development efforts. Companies are also drawn to regions with diversified economies and skilled workforces. Reports have also repeatedly shown that U.S. competitiveness in the world can be directly linked to its investment in an educated workforce and promotion of research and development.

The Idaho research and development projects listed below are in many fields and endeavors but all have the potential to promote high-skill work, support continued economic development, contribute to the local and national economy, and advance U.S. global technology competitiveness.
