Idaho Delegation To Host Academy Day

Idaho students have opportunity to learn about Military Service Academies

Washington, DC - The Idaho Congressional Delegation will host the Annual Service Academy Day in Idaho on October 3rd. Events will be held simultaneously in Boise and Coeur d'Alene.

The purpose of these gatherings is to share information with students, parents, and counselors about the Congressional nomination process for the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. While a Congressional nomination is not needed to attend the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, representatives have been invited to share information about this school as well.

The 9th Annual Service Academy Day events for Idaho on October 3rd are at the locations noted. Both sessions will run from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. local time:

Boise: Gowen Field, Building 600 Auditorium, 4040 West Guard Street. Please note that an RSVP is required to attend the event at Gowen Field.  RSVP to Linda Culver, Congressman Simpson, (208) 734-7219.

Coeur d'Alene: Coeur d'Alene Library, 702 E. Front Street. No RSVP is required to attend this event.

"Every year I am pleased to nominate Idaho students to our military academies," Crapo said. "These academies offer both academic and military training second to none, and I encourage Idaho students and parents to attend Academy Day events and learn more about our military academies."

"Attending one of the Service Academies is both a great honor and a service to our country and its citizens," said Risch. "It opens the door to some tremendous career and life opportunities. I encourage all those considering this option to come to a session and have their questions answered."

"Academy nominations give Idaho's finest students the opportunity to serve their country, receive an elite college education and get a jump-start on a good career," said Simpson. "Idaho consistently ranks among the top states in the quality of its nominations and we'll be looking to continue that record."

"One of my favorite moments as a Congressman was the first time I got to call a young man to tell him he had been accepted into a service academy," Minnick said. "It is a proud event for the student, for the family and for me - as a citizen, Congressman and veteran. These institutions are among the very best in the world at grooming future leaders, and I look forward to helping young Idahoans learn more."

Participants in the Academy Day events can meet with Academy liaisons, cadets and midshipmen to learn more about each academy and the application process. Applicants must have a nomination from one of their Congressional representatives to apply to most of the academies.
