Package will help all Americans, Idaho's senators say
WASHINGTON, DC - Idaho Senators Larry Craig and Mike Crapo issued the following statements today regarding President Bush's economic growth package:â??Under the Presidentâ??s plan, everyone in America who pays taxes will benefit from tax reductions. Senior citizens, families, married couples, small business people, and investors will all receive significant tax relief,â?? Senator Craig said. â??This plan encourages consumer spending that will continue to boost economic recovery and it promotes investment by individuals and businesses which leads to economic growth and job creation. In addition, legislation passed today extends unemployment benefits through May of this year. This bill will help out thousands of Idahoans in need of temporary benefits while they work to find new employment.â?? Crapo focused on the unemployment benefits extension in the measure, saying, â??Todayâ??s action means more than 16,000 Idahoans can get a fresh start for the new year. There are also indications another 6,000 Idahoans may yet find themselves looking for help if their jobless benefits run out. Hopefully this extension and cooperative efforts between Congress and President Bush will put our economy back on track and get people back to work quickly. The President's plan contains a number of provisions that will help economic recovery, encourage investment, and provide tax relief for many Americans, and I look forward to working together with other Senators to create the best possible plan to revive our economy.â??[30]
