Student applications due by the end of October
Washington, DC â?? Student applications to attend one of the nationâ??s four military academies are now being accepted by Idaho Senator Mike Crapoâ??s office. Every year, Crapo nominates selected Idaho students to the following: the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado; the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, New York; the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New York; and the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland. Interested students need to submit an application and references and meet certain scholastic requirements for consideration in the next academic year. The final admission selections are made by the individual academies.â??It is never too early for high school students to begin to explore their higher education options,â?? Crapo said. â??The four military academies maintain some of the highest academic standards and programs in the country, and the learning environment and opportunities are unparalleled. I would strongly encourage Idaho students who have an interest in attending one of these academies to begin the application process now. Each year, we have several Idaho students who are accepted to the academies and their educational experience is one of the finest available today.â??Students may apply to both United States Senators and the U.S. Representative from their congressional district as well as the Vice President of the United States. The names of students nominated by Crapo will be forwarded to each service academy, where final appointments are made by the individual institution. Those wishing to apply for a nomination to the next class, entering in 2006, should contact Crapoâ??s military representative, Linda Norris at (202) 224-0851 for more information. Applications must be submitted no later than October 31, 2005.# # #
