Senator looking to nominate Idahoans to service academies
Washington, DC - Idaho Senator Mike Crapo is reminding Idaho students that the deadline to submit applications to his office for a nomination to a U.S. service academy is approaching. Initial applications must be received in Crapo's Twin Falls office by 5:00 p.m. on October 31, 2006 if the student wishes to be considered for the class entering in 2007. Every year, Crapo nominates selected Idaho students to the following: the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado; the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, New York; the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New York; and the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland. Interested students need to submit an application and references and meet certain scholarship requirements for consideration. The final admission selections are made by the individual academies. "The four academies maintain some of the highest academic standards of any school in the country," Crapo noted. "I encourage Idaho's students to complete their applications so that they may be considered." Those wishing to apply should contact Crapo's military representative, Linda Norris, at (202) 224-0851 or go to Crapo's official website at http://crapo.senate.gov/services/academy_nominations.cfm for more information. Applications must be submitted no later than October 31, 2006. Crapo's Twin Falls office is located at 202 Falls Avenue, Suite 2, Twin Falls, Idaho, 83301.
