Crapo Announces 2004 Academy Nominations

Washington, DC -- Idaho Senator Mike Crapo is pleased to announce his service academy nominations for the class entering in 2004. Thirty-four students from throughout Idaho have been nominated and their names will be forwarded to one of the four U.S. service academies, where final selections will be made by each academy. Several years ago, Crapo began making academy nominations public on or near December 7th, the anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, an event that spurred many young Americans to sign up for military service. â??These students are a cross-section of the best that Idaho has to offer,â?? Crapo said. â??It is always a pleasure to review the applications and discover the outstanding caliber of individuals applying. With our military playing such a prominent and significant public role right now, it is heartening to know that Idaho is doing its part to continue the strong military tradition that is needed to keep our nation secure. I look forward to hearing great things about these students in the years to come.â?? Each year U.S. Senators and Representatives make nominations to service academies. The service academies then select from those nominations. Crapo made nominations to the following service academies: the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado; the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, New York; the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, New York; and the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland. To be eligible for nominations, each student submitted an application and references, and met certain scholastic requirements under a deadline. A nomination does not guarantee acceptance.
