Crapo Celebrates U.S. Phase One Agreement with China

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senator Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) issued this statement following his attendance at a White House ceremony to sign a phase one U.S. trade agreement with China, in which the U.S. is expected to export up to an additional $200 billion in U.S. goods:

“Today’s Phase One trade deal with China takes a meaningful step forward in improving trade relations with one of the United States’ biggest trading partners,” Crapo said.  “Expanded market access and increased prices for Idaho wheat, dairy and beef producers would be welcome news.  The Administration has done a great job at forcefully negotiating equitable trade agreements, and I look forward to continuing to work with President Trump and my colleagues on this and other important trade agreements as further negotiations take place.”

Crapo Trade Background:

The work of Idaho agricultural producers is paramount to our state economy and feeding our people.  Crapo has been active in working with the current and previous administrations to implement more transparent and efficient systems for the review of agricultural biotechnology products important to Idaho producers. Previously, Crapo co-chaired international trade panels with the Canada-U.S. Inter-Parliamentary Group and was a delegate to the World Trade Organization talks in Seattle in 1999, in which he helped announce China’s purchase of Idaho wheat.  Now, as Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee and a senior member of the Senate Finance Committee, he is helping direct trade improvements.
