Votes no on final passage of DHS funding bill
Washington, D.C.-Idaho Senator Mike Crapo released the following statement after voting against final passage of H.R. 240, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Appropriations Act of 2015, which was ultimately stripped of provisions to stop the President's executive action on immigration:
"No one should gain any advantage or benefit toward citizenship or legal permanent resident status because of illegal entry into the United States," said Crapo. "The President's reckless executive action not only steps outside the bounds of the law, but will only worsen our badly broken immigration system. Congress must do everything in its power, including exercising its oversight ability through the power of the purse, to rein in this blatant executive overreach. We need to adequately fund our Department of Homeland Security to protect the American people, but I could not support a bill that enables the President's illegal and unconstitutional executive amnesty to continue."
