U.S. National Debt:

Crapo Joins Border Security Legislation

Washington, D.C.--U.S. Senator Mike Crapo joined Senator Katie Britt (R-Alabama) in introducing several pieces of legislation aimed at sealing and securing the southern border, cracking down on asylum abuse, keeping American communities and families safe and ultimately ending the ongoing border crisis.

“Under President Biden, there have been the most illegal border crossings in U.S. history.  This is alarming and intolerable.  With those illegal crossings, we have seen record levels of lethal fentanyl flowing into our communities, killing our nation’s young adults at tragic rates.  We must protect our national security by immediately closing all loopholes and enforcing all immigration laws to ensure the safety of American citizens,” said Senator Crapo.

Crapo and Britt introduced the following items to combat the crisis at the southern border:

  • A Senate Resolution acknowledging a crisis at the southern border;
  • The Keep Our Communities Safe Act, which would close the Obama-Biden era “catch and release” policy that allows the federal government to release illegal immigrants into the U.S. after being detained for six months; and
  • The Asylum Abuse Reduction Act, which would codify the Remain in Mexico policy that requires asylum seekers to stay outside of the U.S. while their claim is being considered.
