Copies of the Constitution available to high school students
Washington, DC - To mark the 216th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution on September 17, Idaho Senator Mike Crapo is providing copies of the historic document to local high school classes. On Wednesday, Crapoâ??s Regional Directors in Caldwell and Lewiston will present copies to government classes in the state.â??For 216 years, our Constitution has withstood the test of time,â?? Crapo said. â??While the 4th of July celebrates the signing of the Declaration of Independence with fireworks and community parades, we sometimes neglect to give the anniversary of the signing of the Constitution its due. The Constitution provides the backbone of our government and set forth a framework that has withstood the test of time. It is particularly notable this year because the Federal Archives, which houses the original Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights will re-open after a two-year absence for renovation. During that time, Americans have not had the opportunity to see these historic documents firsthand and, for the first time, all four pages of the Constitution will be on continuous display. The newly-renovated exhibit will be an exciting reminder of the birth of our countryâ??s independent philosophy. As many Idaho high school students begin another year of studying government, I am pleased to present these copies of the Constitution, which will give each student an opportunity to personally review this benchmark document that continues guide our national philosophy.â??Copies of the Constitution along with an informational packet prepared by the Congressional Research Service on the Constitution will be presented to Idaho high school students at the following locations and times on Wednesday, September 17:SchoolLocationTimeRidgecrest High SchoolNampa, 3201 Ridgecrest Dr.8:00 a.m.Genesee High School330 W.
