Americans for Tax Reform honors Senator in Washington
Washington, DC â?? Idaho Senator Mike Crapo today received the â??Hero of the Taxpayerâ?? Award from Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) during an afternoon ceremony in Washington, DC. Crapo, a member of the Senate Budget Committee and supporter of several tax-cutting and economic stimulus measures, voted in the interests of taxpayers on 90 percent of the issues tracked by ATR. â??Good fiscal policy is a key element of our nationâ??s economic strength,â?? Crapo said. â??Our nation, its families and citizens have benefited from the tax relief provided in the last three years. As I have said before, it is important that this tax relief is not transitory, but that we continue to provide relief to our nationâ??s wage-earners.â?? Votes rated by ATR this year included votes on tort reform, free trade, spending control, and overtime regulation reform. ATR double-rated a vote on keeping the Internet tax free, a proposal supported by Crapo. Crapo has also signed the â??Taxpayer Protection Pledge,â?? which was counted by ATR in this yearâ??s rankings. â??During election season, every candidate is apt to allege that he or she will be a friend of taxpayers once in Washington,â?? said Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform. â??But the proof is in their votes. Senator Mike Crapo is squarely on the side of taxpayers, and Americans for Tax Reform offers its thanks and congratulations.â?? Crapo is a member of the Senate Tax Reform Working Group and the Zero Capital Gains Caucus. He has been recognized previously for his work on behalf of taxpayers, receiving the same â??Heroâ?? award last year from ATR. In July 2004, Crapo was also honored for by the American Conservative Union as one of the â??Best and Brightestâ?? for votes to cut taxes and ensure budget discipline. # # #
