U.S. National Debt:

Crapo Recognized as â??Taxpayer Super Heroâ?? for Standing Against Government Waste

Earns Perfect Score for 2015 Rating Period

Washington - In recognition of his dedication to standing against wasteful government spending, the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW)  has honored Idaho Senator Mike Crapo with its "Taxpayer Super Hero" award.  Among all 100 senators and 435 members of Congress, Crapo is one of only 17 lawmakers to earn a perfect score for his efforts to protect taxpayer interests.

Crapo, who has opened every one of his 166 town meetings with warnings about the $19 trillion federal debt, said, "The failure to address our fiscal crisis will have consequences for every American.  We cannot continue to ignore the national debt and simply try to spend our way into prosperity on borrowed money.  Part of addressing this crisis is to first and foremost cut unnecessary and wasteful spending while, at the same time, making government more accountable to citizens."

"We applaud and wholeheartedly thank Sen. Crapo for his hard work on behalf of the taxpayers," said Tom Schatz, President of CCAGW.  "His essential votes to cut wasteful spending and make government more accountable should serve as an example to other members, encouraging them to make good on their promises to protect the fiscal interests of American taxpayers.  We have no doubt that Sen. Crapo will continue to lead the effort to end wasteful spending and reduce the growing national debt."

CCAGW has issued its congressional rankings report since 1989, chronicling the voting records of all 535 members of Congress.  In its annual reports, CCAGW highlights members who have voted to protect the interests of taxpayers and the money they pay each year in taxes.
