Crapo, Risch Statement on Advancement of Brent Bunn U.S. Marshal Nomination

Washington, D.C. – The Senate Judiciary Committee today voted to advance a number of nominations to the full Senate for consideration, including the nomination for retired Bear Lake County Sheriff Brent Bunn to serve as United States Marshal for the District of Idaho.  U.S. Senator Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), a member of the Committee, voted in favor of Bunn’s nomination.  Senator Crapo and fellow U.S. Senator from Idaho, Jim Risch, issued the following statements: 

“Mr. Bunn has had a lengthy and honorable law enforcement career in Idaho for several decades and has gained the support from his fellow law enforcement colleagues,” said Senator Crapo.  “He is well equipped to serve Idaho as a U.S. Marshal, and I urge all of my Senate colleagues to support his confirmation when it comes to the Senate Floor for a vote.” 

“After 32 years of service, I have no doubt that Mr. Bunn will protect Idahoans, executing the duties of a U.S. Marshal with the highest integrity and commitment to enforcing our nation’s laws,” said Senator Risch.  “I want to thank Chairman Graham and the Committee on the Judiciary members for moving forward his nomination, and am hopeful we can move to confirm him in the full Senate without delay.” 

A native of Montpelier, Idaho, Brent Bunn has dedicated more than 41 years of service in law enforcement.  He most recently served 32 years as Bear Lake County Sheriff, a record for the state of Idaho, before his retirement in 2016.  Mr. Bunn has served in a variety of leadership roles including 16 years of service on the Idaho Counties Risk Management Program Board of Directors, and has earned several awards during his tenure.  He is a graduate of Bear Lake High School and Brigham Young University.  

Bunn’s nomination now goes before the full Senate for consideration.  The vote date and time has not yet been determined.
