Crapo: Russia Not Solely to Blame for Gas Prices

Washington, D.C.--U.S. Senator Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee, issued the following video statement regarding the Administration’s claims that skyrocketing gas prices are solely to blame on Russia’s barbaric attacks on and invasion of Ukraine.

“Anyone who has recently filled up at the gas station is hyper-aware of inflation’s sting, with gas prices at all-time highs across the country.

“The national average for a gallon of regular, unleaded gas has surged to a record-breaking $4.31.  In Idaho, the price is even higher at $4.37.

“Skyrocketing gas prices have been more than a year in the making.

“Now, President Biden wants to blame gas prices on the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

“But, this ignores the reality of the trillions of dollars in unrestrained debt-financed spending over the last 14 months, and a 40 percent increase in gas prices prior to the invasion.

“This claim also ignores the last 14 months of Democrats’ attacks on the American oil and gas industry, the Administration’s overly bureaucratic permit and regulatory process for domestic production and misguided policy decisions like cancelling the Keystone XL pipeline.

“The Administration should work with Congress to take practical steps to address runaway inflation through greater spending discipline, and policies that fuel job growth and tap our energy sources here at home.”
