U.S. National Debt:

Crapo Says Congress, President Must Work Hard to Address Debt Crisis

Boise - Idaho Senator Mike Crapo today offered his congratulations to Congressman Mike Simpson and Congressman Raùl Labrador on their election victories, noting that although the election is over, there is a phenomenal amount of work to be done on Capitol Hill to address the nation's fiscal crisis.

"The challenges that we face are no less significant now that the election is over and President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden have been re-elected," Crapo said.  "Congress is confronted with a lame-duck session full of hard work and tough decisions.   At year's end, we will be approaching a new debt ceiling, sharp tax increases and possible sequestration.  If we avoid this catastrophe, and I am hopeful that we will, there is still a great deal of work to be done.  In the midst of this fiscal crisis, we have the opportunity to truly strengthen America's economic competitiveness and correct our debt crisis by reforming the tax code and putting an end to out-of-control spending."
