Washington, D.C.--U.S. Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) delivered the following remarks at an executive session hearing to vote on the nominations of James Ives to be Inspector General of the U.S. Department of the Treasury and Rose Jenkins, Adam Landy and Kashi Way to be Judges on the U.S. Tax Court.
As prepared for delivery:
“Mr. Ives has significant experience in the Inspector General community, and I appreciate his many years of public service and willingness to continue to serve as the Inspector General of the Treasury Department, if confirmed.
“I was encouraged by his commitment to keep Congress fully informed in the oversight of the Treasury Department, and to provide prompt and thorough responses to the Finance Committee.
“It is critical to have an effective Inspector General to monitor how taxpayer dollars are spent, and to ensure a professional level of work at the IG’s office.
“I look forward to Mr. Ives partnering with Congress to hold objective oversight of the Treasury Department.
“Moving to the three other nominees under consideration today: Ms. Jenkins, Mr. Landy, and Mr. Way, who have been nominated to serve as Judges of the U.S. Tax Court.
“Each of the nominees are without question highly qualified tax experts, and they have each committed to being fair and impartial to all individuals before the Court.
“Mr. Way has served on the staff of the Joint Committee of Taxation for nearly 20 years, providing important advice to members during the enactment of key tax legislation. I appreciate Mr. Way’s work with this Committee over the years.
“If confirmed, I fully expect each of the nominees to treat taxpayers with the respect, dignity, and fairness they deserve.
“For these reasons, I will be voting yes on each of the nominees, and I encourage my colleagues to do the same.
“Thank you, Mr. Chairman.”
