Washington, D.C--U.S. Senator Mike Crapo (R-Idaho), senior member of the Senate Banking Committee, issued the following statement regarding attempts by Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Rohit Chopra, and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) Director Martin Gruenberg to circumvent FDIC Chairwoman Jelena McWilliams:
“Actions taken by CFPB Director Rohit Chopra and Martin Gruenberg are illegitimate and undercut the integrity of the FDIC,” said Senator Crapo. The FDIC plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and soundness of the financial system and these actions are harmful and counter-productive. These highly political games must immediately stop.”
