Washington, D.C. - Idaho Senator Mike Crapo has been named Chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. Crapo was elected by his fellow Republican colleagues on the committee and his appointment was confirmed by full Senate with the passage of Senate Resolution 7 on Thursday.
The Committee has broad jurisdiction over efforts to promote capital formation, investment in our economy, the stability of the financial system and responsible lending to families and businesses. This includes oversight of federal policies concerning housing, insurance, financial institutions, capital markets, equity investments, urban development, mass transit, foreign trade promotion and economic policy.
"I thank my colleagues for their trust to lead this important committee in the new Congress," said Crapo. "I look forward to working with my fellow Senators to advance bipartisan solutions to promote job creation, access to credit, financial innovation, and financial stability. We have a real opportunity to take action on pro-growth reforms that will promote traditional lending in all communities and strengthen our economy."
In addition to chairing the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, Crapo will remain a member of four other committees: Budget; Finance; Indian Affairs, and Judiciary.
