Presents Congressional Record Statement at Twin Falls Factory
Twin Falls - The nation's second-largest producer of sugar from sugar beets is celebrating its' 100 th sugarbeet campaign in the Magic Valley this year. On Friday Idaho Senator Mike Crapo will present Amalgamated Sugar a copy of a Congressional Record Statement that he and Senator Jim Risch introduced into the Senate Record honoring Amalgamated Sugar's achievements over the past 100 years of sugar production in Idaho.
The ceremony is planned at the Twin Falls Amalgamated facility at 10:00AM. Crapo will meet with Amalgamated President and CEO John McCreedy, Amalgamated's factory and research employees, local sugarbeet growers and area civic, business and political leaders. Amalgamated has plants in Twin Falls, Nampa and Paul and offices in Boise. In its early days, Amalgamaged began filling just under one million 100-pound bags of sugar. Today, that number tops 21-million 100-pound bags. The cooperative's accomplishments result from the teamwork of its approximately 750 growers and more than 1,600 Idaho employees who produce quality sugarbeets, transport them from the fields to the factories and refine high quality sugar products, nutritional supplements and animal-feed products.Amalgamated Sugar contributes about $800 million in revenues to Idaho's economy.
