Crapo Welcomes Spring Interns to D.C. Office

Students spend semester learning about Congress

Washington, D.C. - Three Idaho students and one student from Australia are experiencing the opportunity to observe the inner workings of Congress and the federal government while serving as interns for the spring semester in the Washington, D.C., office of Idaho Senator Mike Crapo.

Senator Crapo offers congressional internships each semester in both his Washington, D.C., and state offices.  "Students interested in politics, public service and public relations can gain indispensible experience by serving an internship in a Congressional office," Crapo said.  "I had the opportunity to serve an internship on Capitol Hill during the summer of the Watergate break-in, and it helped spur my interest in the political process and public service.  These programs are a great way to explore possible career opportunities while gaining real life experience."

Ryan Andersen is a junior at Brigham Young University-Idaho in Rexburg, and is also a native of the area.  He is majoring in political science and plans on going to both law and business school.

Taylor Richert is originally from Boise, Idaho, and recently graduated from the University of Idaho, majoring in political science with a minor in Spanish.  Taylor plans on working in a political office full-time following his internship.

Carrie O'Brien is from Coeur d'Alene and graduated from the University of Idaho in December, majoring in international studies, Spanish and philosophy.  After her internship, Carrie would like to work for an international non-profit organization and continue her travels abroad.

Chris Colalillo is in his third year at the University of Western Australia, majoring in political science and international relations, as well as ancient history, for an arts degree.  He is from Perth, Western Australia, and is participating in an international internship program on Capitol Hill.  After his time in D.C., Chris will return to Australia to finish his degrees.
