Recent legislation co-sponsored by Crapo will direct a whole-of-government approach to advancing nuclear power as key part of national security
Washington, D.C. -- In November, U.S. Senator Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) joined Bret Kugelmass of the Titans of Nuclear Podcast to discuss the benefits of nuclear energy. Titans of Nuclear released the podcast on Monday, December 2, 2019. The full interview is below.
Kugelmass opened the interview inquiring about Senator Crapo sharing a hometown with the Idaho National Lab (INL) and asked if growing up around a nuclear energy hub had impacted his career in politics. As Crapo put it, he has been connected to nuclear energy “since the beginning,” highlighting that the world’s first nuclear energy powered light bulb was lit the same year he was born, just an hour west of his hometown.
Kugelmass and Crapo discussed the benefits of nuclear energy on the environment and the U.S. economy, and closed in discussing various pieces of nuclear energy innovation bills, including the Nuclear Energy Innovation and Capabilities Act (NEICA) and the Nuclear Energy Innovation and Modernization Act (NEIMA) which have both been recently signed into law. Pending legislation to further boost nuclear energy innovation and reestablish U.S. leadership in nuclear energy, the Nuclear Energy Leadership Act (NELA), “would direct a whole-of-government approach to accepting nuclear power as a key part of our national energy, our national security and our economic policy,” Crapo said.
