Semiconductor Industry Association Recognizes Crapo for Support Legislation Critical to Idaho Employers like Micron and ON Semiconductor
WASHINGTON – In recognition of his continuing advocacy for the women and men of the state’s semiconductor industry, Idaho Senator Mike Crapo has been presented the Congressional Leadership Award by the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA). Crapo received the award for his work on issues critical to the industry, such as tax reform, that strengthen and advance its ability to conduct research and development, while continuing to grow and meet changing demand. These factors are critical to companies in Idaho such as Micron Technology and ON Semiconductor.
“Micron has made its home in Boise since its founding. With thousands of employees, I have seen firsthand what the semiconductor industry means for Idaho and I know how important these jobs are to our state and our economy. ON Semiconductor also has a presence in Idaho and employs many in our state in cutting edge research and development” said Crapo. “Ensuring that the industry can continue to innovate and develop new technologies will keep Idaho on the world stage for research and development.”
“Semiconductors are a complex and fast-moving business,” said Sanjay Mehrotra, President and CEO of Micron, who was in Washington when the award was presented. “Micron is grateful to have the support of leaders like Senator Crapo, who understand that a long-term vision is critical to ongoing growth and success.”
"ON Semiconductor is grateful for Senator Crapo's leadership, especially in the area of tax reform, to improve the competitiveness for U.S. semiconductor research, design, and manufacturing," said Keith Jackson, President and CEO of ON Semiconductor. "Senator Crapo's achievements in Washington have helped our Idaho businesses in Pocatello, Nampa, and Meridian to be competitive in a challenging global market. As a result, we have been able to invest in our Idaho communities maintaining and adding good paying jobs."
"We applaud Senator Crapo for his steadfast support of policies that strengthen the semiconductor industry, the tech sector, and the U.S. economy," said John Neuffer, SIA President & CEO. "We especially appreciate his resolute leadership in advancing critical corporate tax reform legislation that will help sustain U.S. leadership in semiconductor research, design, and manufacturing. The new law has helped modernize the corporate tax code and improve the competitiveness of the U.S. semiconductor industry."
Also recognized by SIA was Rep. Peter Roskam, a Republican representing Illinois’ sixth congressional district. Pictured below is Sen. Crapo receiving SIA’s Congressional Leadership Award.
