U.S. National Debt:

Senate To Send Relief To Katrina Victims

Crapo applauds Senate emergency session to send $10 billion in aid for relief

Washington, DC â??Idaho Senator Mike Crapo commended Senate plans to call an emergency session tonight to approve appropriations to provide immediate assistance for federal and local disaster response teams. The Senate plans to send approximately $10 billion in aid to help with rescue efforts currently underway in the Gulf region.â??Weâ??ve all seen pictures of the devastation in New Orleans and Biloxi and other communities throughout the South, â??said Crapo. â??It is imperative that we respond quickly and effectively to this natural disaster. Congress is planning this emergency session to expedite the financial resources needed by relief organizations and local and state agencies. I also encourage Idahoans to do all they can to assist the recovery efforts. Those could include donations of money and other necessary items, and donating blood through local hospitals and Red Cross chapters.â??Crapoâ??s Senate website contains more information on how Idahoans can assist victims at http://crapo.senate.gov.
